Review of POCSO Act & JJ Act Implementation in Maharashtra

Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) in collaboration with

Majlis a legal centre for women and children, undertook the enormous task to review the implementation of POCSO and JJ Act in Maharashtra. This is the first-of-its-kind review ever done in our country. As part of the review, we:

1. Collected data from Police and Child Welfare Committees (CWC) for the period from 1st

January 2021 to 31st December 2022.

2. The data was analysed and compared with the Maharashtra Crime Records Bureau data.

3. Region-wise consultations were held in Konkan, Pune, Aurangabad, Nashik, Nagpur and

Amravati. We shared presentations with comparative graphs, tables and observations for

each district, as well as comparisons between districts. We interacted with stakeholders,

including the Police, Medical officers, CWC, and NGOs. We listened to stakeholders

respond to the data, as well as explain the difficulties and challenges they face.

4. Finally, we brought out a comprehensive report presenting the data and sharing our

findings and recommendations.

It is with great hope that we present the final report and recommendations before you. We are sure this will pave the path for an effective plan of action on the ground. Looking forward to creating a child-friendly Maharashtra together.

Regards

Audrey Dmello

Director, Majlis
